This page collects real-world pushback, counter-approaches, and refinements from operating CFOs and finance leaders who read the site. When we get a template, a framework, or a number wrong for your situation, we want to hear it. Contributions are published credited when contributors want it, anonymous when they don’t.
How to contribute
Email hello@thepragmaticcfo.com with three things:
- Which article you’re responding to (link or title is fine).
- What you’d do differently and why. Specifics beat theory. A number, a template, a war story, a place we oversimplified.
- Whether to credit you (name, title, company, optional link) or keep it anonymous. Anon is fully supported and we will scrub any identifying detail on request.
Keep it as long or as short as it needs to be. Two paragraphs of sharp disagreement is worth more than a polished essay.
What we publish
- Thoughtful counter-methodologies. You run rolling forecasts differently, your close cadence looks nothing like ours, your KPI dashboard has different fields. Show the work.
- Alternative templates. If your version of a model or artifact is cleaner or catches things ours misses, send it.
- Real numbers that disagree with ours. Benchmarks in your industry, headcount ratios in your stage, unit economics that break our rule of thumb.
- “Here’s what actually worked at my company” case notes. What you tried, what broke, what stuck. Failure stories especially welcome.
What we don’t publish: vendor pitches, generic think pieces without specifics, or anything that reads like ghostwritten LinkedIn content.
